The first thing you want to find is a keyword tool. Many business owners start with the Google Keyword Planner, which has some limitations, but can be accessed free of charge. The importance of a keyword tool is to track how well your website is ranking for each phrase that you select. Google’s keyword planner tool is an easy integration into your holiday SEO strategy, especially if you already use Google Analytics to track your website performance. Another option, that we highly recommend is the HubSpot keywords tool. You can access a free trial here.

When you begin to choose your keywords, you’ll want to think in the context of the terms and phrases that your customer would be searching for. If your business is located in a specific geographic area, add location based keywords like the name of your city or neighborhood.

Plug your keywords into your keyword planner tool, and you’ll see data on search volumes, as well as information like ranking difficulty. This will give you a good sense of keywords that have the potential to generate high conversions, versus keywords that customers have no interest in. If you want to run ads for select keywords, the keyword tool will also outline the cost-per-click, for each phrase.
